Biography

Selina Kyle is Catwoman, a Gotham City expert thief who crossed paths with Batman on many occasions. Having largely left behind her villainous ways, she now operates as a frequent ally of the Batman Family.
Selina Kyle, also known as Catwoman, is a jewel thief from Gotham City and one of Batman's most-well known enemies. Currently portrayed as an orphan who learned to survive on Gotham's streets, Selina took to thievery to survive... but determined to do it in style, she learned martial arts and trained extensively to perfect her skills in cat burglary. Her criminal activities are often tempered by a reluctant altruism, making her an inconstant villain and occasional ally to Batman. She regularly eludes capture by the Dark Knight and maintains a complicated relationship which frequently fluctuates between flirtatious to romantic. Since 2002's Hush storyline, Catwoman has often been depicted as an anti-hero and one of Batman's closest allies. She is often considered his main love-interest.
The original and most widely known Catwoman, Selina Kyle, first appeared in Batman #1 (Spring 1940) in which she was known as The Cat. As an adversary of Batman, she was a whip-carrying burglar with a taste for high stake thefts. Modern writers have attributed her activities and costumed identity as a response to a history of abuse. Since the 1990s, Catwoman has been featured in an eponymous series that cast her as an anti-heroine rather than a supervillainess. The character has been one of Batman's most enduring love interests.

  Rebirth Origin
Selina was raised alongside her sister Maggie by a drunken father who habitually mistreated her mother, the latter committing suicide when Selina was young. During her childhood, she stole costumes and a gun, which she used to threaten a bunch of bullies threatening a boy. In truth, Selina was not the biological daughter of Brian Kyle, but rather Rex Calabrese.

  Infinite Frontier Origin
Selina Kyle was abandoned by her parents in a dumpster on the corner of Finger and Kane. Her formative years were spent in the Wayne Home for Orphaned Children where she was abused by the staff for her rebellious nature. She escaped and found shelter with the Sewer King, learning how to steal for a living. Selina first encountered a disguised Bruce Wayne while on the street. Later, she took to thieving and eventually became the Catwoman around the time Bruce first debuted as the vigilante "Batman".
